My mom sent me an e-mail about this news story. Apparently vandals broke into Camp Winfield, commonly referred by those who know it as, The Best Place on Earth (see here and here) last week and trashed it. The incident caused $15, 000 of damage, including pouring ketchup into the wooden piano in the dining hall. It can't be fixed.
It makes me sad. Sad to think that someone was troubled enough that they felt motivated to cause so much damage to such an extraordinary place. Sad that camp, which operates entirely on fund raised money to offer a summer-full of special kids, an incredible experience, free of cost. It takes a lot of fundraising to gain back $15,000 - and that is just to get back to even.
